Author’s Note: Wow… I can’t believe I finally finished this! This story is set in an alternate X-Men: Evolution universe and it is nothing else but pure humor and randomness - the two things I’m famous for. ~ Chapter 4: Come on now, did you really think that you could get away with this? ~

“Remy, the prof ain’t here yet.”

“Remy know, chère. Chill.”

“Chill? But what if something happened to him? He’s never late for dinner!”

“Well…”

“Students…”

Everyone at the table looked towards where the voice had come from… and froze, some with spoons and forks in their mouths, others with their jaws hanging.

Professor Xavier sighed. On his head was Cerebro’s helmet, with various wires and gyros still dangling from it. In his right hand he held a screwdriver.

“Would - anyone - care to explain - this…?”

By now, several students were trying very, very hard not to burst into giggles. Under the table, Remy gave Rogue a small nudge. Rogue returned it, and they both grinned.

“Remy, Rogue…? Don’t you have something to say?”

The two started.

“Professor, Ah--”

“Remy not--”

“Come on now, did you really think that you could get away with this?”

“It wasn’t meant for you, Professor”, Rogue said defensively. “Search my mind and see.”

“I would love to, but Cerebro’s helmet, inactive as it is, is blocking out my telepathy. And, surprisingly enough, I can’t take it off.”

Someone - it sounded like Toad - cracked up, then began to cough violently. Magneto raised a finger.

“Maybe I can remove it, Charles?”

“No, thank you. I don’t feel like getting scalped. Besides, I have that pleasure reserved for Rogue and Remy. They will have to take the helmet apart - piece by piece - and make sure they don’t hurt a single atom of my skin.”

Rogue and Remy exchanged a glance, then sighed in unison.

Across the table from them, Jean beamed, then flashed them a grin. Under the table, Rogue raised her middle finger.

“And Rogue, you are confined to the Institute for a week. That is not a way to show your respect to a fellow student.”

“Darn it.”

Remy patted her on the back comfortingly. “At least you got something they don’t have, chère.”

Rogue looked at him sullenly. “What?”

“My memories.”

Rogue shuddered, “Yeah, well… Ah wish Ah didn’t.”

Remy grinned widely before his expression turned to that of a penitent under both the Professor and Magneto’s glares.

“It would seem that love is in the air”, Magneto reflected calmly.

The Professor glared. “Magneto, you are full of surprises”, he said quietly; then, he beckoned the two to follow him, and wheeled out of the dining room.

As soon as he was out of sight, everyone - even Hank, Logan and Ororo - cracked up.
