Chapter five: The Chase is On

// The next day, on the road away from Bree...

Pippin: I'm hungry.

Merry: Me too.

Sam: Me three.

Strider: Shut up.

Pippin: But--

Strider: I said, quiet. Who knows what might hear us?

Pippin: (shudder) Okay...

Strider: Just keep walking. Frodo, how'r ya' feeling?

Frodo: ...

Strider: I thought so (sigh). Well, keep up the good mood.

// The same evening

Sam: What's that on the hill?

Strider: The old watch tower of A-Place-Whose-Name-I-Can't-Remember. We'll rest here for the night.

Sam: Okay.

Merry: (quietly, to Pippin) Hey Pip, isn't this spooky? I think the place is haunted!

Pippin: You're right, I'm scared.

Strider: There are no ghosts. And if you don't knock it off, I'll turn you into ghosts.

Merry: Okay. Jerk.

Strider: I heard that.

// Back with the Wraiths...

Wraith #1: Faster! Go faster! We must catch with them!

Wraith #3: Wasn't that we must catch UP with them?

Wraith #1: Oh... sorry. We must catch up with them. That better?

Wraith #3: Yup.

Wraith #8: Yeah, we heard you the first time. And that was seven hours ago. I'm h--(Wraith #2 elbows him)--happy to be on this quest (jerk).

Wraith #1: That's good to hear.

Wraith #4: Hey what's that on the hill?

Wraith #1: What's what?

Wraith #4: It's a FIRE! It's them!

Wraith #1: It is! Full speed ahead!

All: CHAAAARGE!!

// And in the meantime, on the watchtower of The-Place-Whose-Name-Strider-Can't-Remember...

Frodo: (wakes up to find fire burning right under his nose) Aah! What do you think you're doing?

Sam: Cooking. Want a bite?

Frodo: NO! (puts out the fire... with his feet. Ouch.)

Merry: ...did that hurt?

Frodo: Yeah.

Merry: Good! Why'd you ruin our dinner?

Frodo: BECAUSE those Naz-whatever-they're-called--

Author: (whispers) Nazgul!

Frodo: ...Nazgul might see us!

// Wraiths pop out of nowhere

Sam: (uh-oh) You think?
