Arrancar in the Big City

Chapter 3
Then he was awoken by a sharp poke on his shoulder. His first reflex was to reach out and choke the life out of whoever had gotten this close without him realizing it. The next thing that Grimmjow felt was a set of razor-sharp teeth biting into his left hand. This made him snap back to reality with a set of curses that would've made a sailor look away in shame, and he opened his eyes to see a very frightened-looking Wonderwyce chewing on three of his fingers and looking at him pleadingly at the same time. When the younger arrancar saw that the other was awake, he drew back with a yelp and crouched behind the small tea-table that was set in the middle of the room, eyes wide.
For a second, Grimmjow considered going back to sleep as though nothing had happened. Still, there was a small voice at the back of his mind that stressed out the fact that he alone couldn't have scared the other that much, no matter how murderous he looked at the moment. Therefore, something else must've happened. Grimmjow cleared his throat and groaned. "What?"
Wonderwyce blinked.
"What happened?" Grimmjow reiterated his question, hoping that somehow his words would register with the other. "Why'd ya wake me up in the middle of the night?" Well, technically, he wasn't sure it was the middle of the night, but whatever. "Seen something?"
Wonderwyce nodded and pointed a quivering finger to the ceiling. "Moved..." he said, his voice shaking as well.
It was Grimmjow's turn to blink. "Moved, huh? What was it?"
Wonderwyce shrugged cluelessly.
Grimmjow pondered his options. He could still go back to sleep and pretend that nothing had happened, or he could go upstairs, give things a look, then come back and doze off once more. Reluctantly, he decided for the latter option and he stood up with a groan. "All right, let's go..."
Wonderwyce didn't react in any way.
"I'm starting to get fed up with this already", Grimmjow muttered as he very reluctantly started to head upstairs, a miserable-looking Wonderwyce in tow.
The room that Wonderwyce had picked looked nothing like the rest of the house. Its walls were dyed in some sort of a horrendously bright color (either pink or cyan, Grimmjow didn't recall its name on the spot), the furniture was smaller than the one he had noted in the other rooms, and various fluffy things were scattered all over the floor. Quite fitting, the older arrancar noted with a smirk.
"All right, where is it?"
"...it?" came the retort, as Wonderwyce stepped into the room, looking as though expecting a huge hollow to lunge out at him any second now.
"Yeah, the thing that moved, where is it?"
Wonderwyce pointed to the bed, and then bolted back out the door and peeked out from behind it.
"This is stupid..." Grimmjow muttered to himself as he crouched to look under the small piece of furniture. At first he didn't notice anything in the darkness, save for a suspiciously-looking white spot.
Then, the spot began to move, emitting a series of gurgled sounds at the same time.
Grimmjow drew back more abruptly than he had intended to and collided with Wonderwyce, who had come closer to see what was going on. The impact sent both of them crashing to the floor. Wonderwyce let out a choked scream and scrambled back to his feet, as Grimmjow fell into a defensive crouch. Whatever that was, it didn't look good at all, and he felt a pang of fear despite himself. He wished he'd paid more attention as to how to get out of the gigai and in full battle mode when Ulquiorra had explained it.
The sheets that hung low over the edge of the bed were moving this way and that, as the series of gurgled sounds continued. A few moments later, something small and white crawled out into the light.
Wonderwyce bolted out of the room. Grimmjow glared at the thing for a few seconds and then backed away and out of the room slowly, slamming the door shut behind him.
Ulquiorra looked very unhappy to have been woken up in the middle of the night like this. Yami just blinked and yawned from time to time. Wonderwyce was nowhere in sight.
"...so I just looked down and it was kinda... there. I'm guessing that Yami here didn't quite look around the house for any survivors before calling in for the takeover". Grimmjow smirked. Yami didn't seem to notice his remark. "That's that."
"And you thought it necessary to wake everyone because of that?" Ulquiorra asked, his annoyance obvious.
"Yeah, I could've killed it on the spot", the other arrancar muttered, more to himself. Come to think of it, it wasn't such a bad idea after all. One quick blow to the head, and then everybody could peacefully go back to sleep. "I could--"
Ulquiorra held up a hand as he pushed the door and entered the room. After a taking a step or two, he stopped.
"This is -- it?"
Grimmjow nodded and peered over Ulquiorra's shoulder curiously.
A human baby, probably no more than a few months old, was curled up on a small rug and sleeping peacefully, absently sucking on one of its thumbs.
Silence descended for several moments. Grimmjow raised an eyebrow. Yami let out a huge yawn. The baby flapped its arms, giggling in its sleep.
"This is... unexpected", Ulquiorra finally concluded, taking a reluctant step towards the sleeping thing. "But, seen from another point of view, it's -- absolutely perfect."
Meanwhile, in Hueco Mundo...
Gin glanced around, making sure that nobody was around. Aizen was nowhere in sight, and apart for a few wandering souls that would probably going to get devoured by hollows sooner or later, he was alone. Gin's smile widened a bit as he opened a portal and hurriedly stepped through it. This was going to be fun.
Turn to the next!
